Informal care and work
Informal care and (voluntary) work can be easily combined when employer and employee deal with it consciously.
Working together on a good balance between work and informal care provides many benefits for both. The employee experiences more balance and less pressure to combine work and private life. The employer experiences continuity in work and sustainably engaged staff and a decrease in absenteeism due to illness.
Not every employer is aware of what it means for employees if they also care for someone with a chronic illness, disability or psychological vulnerability in their private situation. There can also be misunderstanding in the workplace. There are working carers who cannot share their private concerns or the stress this causes at work. They do experience the pressure to be able to continue to do both well. Sometimes this leads to sick leave.

FOR EMPLOYEES
Combining (voluntary) work and care can cause a lot of pressure. It can be difficult to 'keep all the balls in the air'.
If you want to spar about your situation and get tips for more balance, you can contact the Expertisecentrum Mantelzorg. Informal care consultants think along with you and give advice. The consultants are aware of legislation and regulations and know the way to support options. There are also workshops for working carers and you can get tools in the In Balance course to experience less stress.
FOR EMPLOYERS
For employers, the Expertise Center offers advice and there are tailor-made workshops and information to realize informal care-friendly personnel policy.

"After the information meeting about informal care, I started to look differently. More than I ever thought possible, I have contact with informal caregivers at work. And instead of focusing care only on the patient, I am now also more involved with the support network How do we ensure that these informal carers remain upright."
