Young language buddies wanted (18 to 30 years)

Are you between 18 and 30 years old and looking for volunteer work? We are increasingly being asked by AZCs whether we can provide support for language development. These are enthusiastic young refugees who are looking for a language buddy for about three hours a week. They often also struggle with loneliness, because it is difficult to make social contacts. We are therefore looking for people who would like to make a positive contribution to this. Think of: taking a nice walk and learning new words while pointing, or practicing writing letters in Dutch together. Accessible and light-hearted, no prior education required. Are you available for 1 to 3 hours a week and would you like to become a buddy of an AZC resident (around your age), or would you like more information first? Contact Chedi.

Buddies for children and young people; that's what we're looking for. It's not difficult, it's fun. Once a week you have contact with a child or young person, you agree to do something together, you have a listening ear and you take the time to delve into the things a child or young person may encounter. You just go out together. For some children and young people in Almere it is not entirely self-evident that they grow up in circumstances where space, attention and time can be made for them to do things together or where children are, for example, at a (sports) club. The children grow up in families where all sorts of things happen around health, relationships, poverty and isolation. Trained volunteers from Humanitas make time and space and give attention so that children have an outlet and feel valued. It's great to see what genuine attention means to a child. To notice that with your help a child becomes stronger and happier again. Won't need you after a while. You are a buddy for a child or young person for a maximum of one year and the permanent Humanitas supervisor is your point of contact. You are never alone! You are available for 3 to 4 hours a week or every two weeks for a child or young person (4-24 years) who could use extra attention. You discuss what you are doing together. Do you opt for crafts, chilling, or do you do something sporty? Who you are • You have experience/affinity with children/young people who grow up under difficult circumstances •You can listen well and motivate •You are available for at least a few hours a week or every two weeks •You are looking for fun and meaningful or educational volunteer work or an internship What you get: Giving is received. So if you give time and attention to someone, you always get something in return. Like: •Fulfilment •Meaningful volunteering •Support by your coordinator •Development opportunities •New contacts and experiences •Expert training and guidance •Expenses •A nice team of fellow volunteers

Parenting often comes naturally, but sometimes it doesn't. There are no training courses to run a family and raise children. Parents do what they can and usually they figure it out on their own. Sometimes it just doesn't work. There may be concerns about children, partner, work and housing. All this affects the parent and thus the upbringing, especially if there are not many people to fall back on. Humanitas Home-Start Almere is looking for volunteers who have experience with raising and/or growing children. As a volunteer you are an important companion for the parents and their children. You offer time and attention in the form of a listening ear. You think along with parents and together you look for solutions. By showing what is going well, parents' self-confidence grows again. As a result, they are able to resume family life on their own in due course. For more information, visit: [website hidden]

Humanitas Almere
Humanitas Almere increasingly receives applications from (mostly single) parents who feel overburdened. These parents do not have their own network that can relieve them and they are ‘on’ 24/7 to care for their children. There is no time for yourself, to visit the social worker or to catch up on sleep. For these parents, there is now ‘Kind aan Huis’. Overburdened parents are supported by a volunteer for a period of up to six months. The volunteer receives the child/children at home, or is at the family’s home. Humanitas pays a lot of attention to thorough training in advance, finding a suitable match and good guidance. Sabrina is one of the many parents who would be very happy if a volunteer would occasionally take care of her daughters: "I am Sabrina. I am a single mother of 28 years old with 2 daughters aged 2 and 3. The father of my children works abroad. We did not have a good start as a family. My girls were both crybabies. Because my own family lives in Limburg, I could not fall back on them. I had to do it myself. Now I am burned out. Fortunately, I have professional help. I would really like to meet a nice volunteer who wants to be there for my girls one day a week. They deserve attention and positivity. I think that I can be a much nicer mother again after that!" Do you want to help someone like Sabrina? Are you available one day a week, with or without your family? Then we would really like to get in touch with you! Of course we will not just throw you in at the deep end! You will first follow a preparatory training. And relieving the family is of course more than just babysitting. From Humanitas you will be well guided in building a bond of trust with the parent(s) and children, with a lot of attention for your wishes and possibilities. Are you interested? Then click on 'I want to help'. We will contact you as soon as possible.

Parents who have not yet lived in the Netherlands for a long time are reporting to Humanitas. They feel lonely and have many questions about raising and growing up in the Netherlands. They would like the support of a Home-Start volunteer who can be there for them weekly and who understands them. Because the demand is so great, we are looking for volunteers who want to support a family and who speak Arabic or Turkish in addition to Dutch. Volunteer Aisha tells: Home-Start Volunteer Aisha is linked with Shahla of 25 years. Shahla has been living in the Netherlands for two years now, she has a three-year-old daughter and is pregnant with their second child. Aisha: "I come to Shahla's house for two hours every Tuesday morning. We drink a cup of tea together and then she tells me what is on her mind. Shahla has many questions about her daughter's rebellious moods. I recognize this, because she my daughter used to have it too! Because I speak Arabic I can easily talk to her about this. In addition, Shahla really wants to learn Dutch, so we also practice this together. We go outside together. I show her where she and her child can go to and how it is arranged in the Netherlands. This way the threshold for her to leave is becoming lower and she knows how to find her way better. Shahla lets me know that she is looking forward to my visits. She feels less lonely and more powerful It's nice to see her grow like this!" Something for you? Do you have: - Once a week the time to help a family towards a bright future in Almere? - Knowledge of both the Dutch and the Arabic/Turkish language? - Parenting experience? - Enthusiasm? Then we would love to get in touch with you! How does it work? Before you start working as a Home-Start volunteer, you will follow a short training course. You will be supported by a coordinator during your volunteer work and you will meet regularly with your fellow volunteers to share experiences. There are also many interesting themed meetings that you can attend.

Humanitas is looking for one or two volunteers to strengthen our Soos team in the TBS clinic. The Soos is both a social gathering and a socialization training for TBS patients. These are organized daily, with Humanitas contributing on Mondays between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. The meetings are organized in a community center setting. The meetings are intended to prepare patients for re-entering society, but also because they rarely have contact with the outside world. Under the guidance of the social workers in the clinic, you join these meetings on behalf of Humanitas. What is your role? - You chat with the patients who appeal to you. You have an open, warm and inviting attitude and your goal is to lower any barriers to making contact. - You have an eye for the group dynamics of the patients. The goal is to divide your attention well and to give each patient a sense of (equal) dignity. When you notice that a patient is taking up a lot of space at the expense of another patient, you bring that back into balance. You will be guided in this by experienced social workers. - You signal and, if necessary, you link the signals back to the social worker during the debriefing. Do you like getting to know new people? Are you open-minded and does a heavy story not scare you that easily? Are you available once a week (once every two weeks is also negotiable), then we would like to hear from you! Then you might fit in with our team! If you are interested and/or would like more information about this project, please feel free to contact us.

Sometimes it is difficult to make effective contact, how do you actually do this? How do you make contact based on your own norms and values? These are issues that we work on in groups during the Coach&Approach process. The program focuses on personal development. We practice coaching using theory and different working methods. Coaching yourself, but also coaching someone else. We consider different communication styles and translate these into qualities that can help you communicate from within yourself. We provide tools with which participants learn to deal with negative thoughts and learn to reflect on themselves. Coach&approach is a program in which participants can work in an accessible manner both as a participant and as a volunteer, to learn to coach themselves, but also to learn to adopt an open and coaching attitude as a volunteer. Coach&Approach is aimed at loneliness and intended for young adults between 18 and 30 years old. It is a two-part process that consists of 7 group meetings (with 6 to 10 participants) and a subsequent individual follow-up process in which the participants use their practiced skills. Interested?
